This is the archive blog for the PLN 2010 to 2011.

The new site for the 2012 PLN is here.

Why be part of the PLN?

February 1, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The next Victorian PLN course begins on 5 March, 2012.

If you’re wondering if it’s for you, here are a few comments from past participants:

‘The PLN is a powerful way to explore and experiment in a safe and supportive environment. Participation in the 2010 VicPLN turned my life around – literally.’

– Bev Novak, teacher librarian

‘PLN opened my eyes to so many new things! I finished the course with a list a mile long to try and implement or to pass onto people I know would benefit. Wonderful!’

– Belinda Brown, library technician

‘The PLN gave me the power to start exploring the world of ICT on my own with a lot more confidence than I had before I did it. My world is now now longer AD and BC but pre PLN and post PLN!’

– Leanne Hampson,  secondary teacher

And here’s an amazing testimonial offered by Anne Fraser, one of our 2011 alumni, walking the talk  – on Prezi.

PLN meet-up 26 September

September 9, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Let’s celebrate the end of the 2011 Victorian PLN and consolidate what we learned by meeting up – in person.

If you can, come along to the State Library of Victoria on 26 September (yes, next school holidays) for a day of exploring what we learned on the PLN, and also some new things.

We’ve invited Miffy Farquarson (@MentoneMif) to talk about her PLN, Adrian Camm (@adriancamm) to showcase some games, and Celia Coffa (@ccoffa) to talk about blogging for classes or libraries.

And we’d like some of you to share with us your favourite things – the best or most interesting tools or resources you use in your work. It might be something you came across in the PLN, or something you’d like to tell us about. Up to you. “My favourite things” will be 2 – 3 minutes from a range of people, so we get a burst of ideas and inspiration.
We’ll also have a few iPads on hand so you can have a play if you haven’t seen one yet.

So, if you can make it to Melbourne on 26 September, we’d love you to join us.

The day is open to people from the 2011 PLN – and everyone else in our PLN community.

Monday 26 September

10 am to 3 pm

Conference centre

State Library of Victoria, 328 Swanston St, Melbourne (entrance on La Trobe St)

We’ll provide morning and afternoon tea.

RSVP to to let us know if you’re coming and if you’d like to share your favourite thing (go on!).

Hope to see you there.

Winding down

September 6, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Now that some of the dust has settled on the PLN, we hope you have had some time to take stock of the course and start to use some of the resources we explored. We’ve loved watching the digital stories that so many of you have sent through and been so pleased to hear from many of you who have said how much you enjoyed the PLN.

For those of you who are still working through the units, keep at it. The course will stay online so you will still be able to access it. We’re still reading your blogs and keeping track of your work, and can still be contacted if you need any assistance.

Formal support for the PLN course will cease in the first week of the September (Victoria) holidays. We will then begin to send out certificates with details of your involvement in the PLN this year.

We’re sure the PLN will be back bigger and better next year, so keep an eye out for the 2012 course. If you have any suggestions for resources to add to next year’s course, or any feedback about this year, feel free to email us at

Keep in touch at the Facebook group or using the #vicpln hashtag on Twitter.

Web conference recording

Thanks to everyone who dropped into the wrap-up web conference last week.

If you missed it, here’s the recording.

To all of you, congratulations for everything you’ve achieved on this PLN, and please keep in touch via Facebook, Twitter, diigo or in person.

We’ll be holding a real world meet-up during the September school holidays.

You now have an ongoing PLN. Make it yours.
